Princess Mi-Ah and the Giant Baby

Friday, June 11, 2010

Sorry, it’s been a while.  Working on my YA SF novel, work and 2 kids.  Princess Mi-Ah stories are still going strong and as of late I’ve started doing interactive versions.  Little brother I-An (now 3) is also into them so I make sure to include Prince Boerie (his knickname) in them as well.  Here’s a clip from a recent story we played out together with the stuffed animals and dolls.  Warning – this story is kind of wierd but it’s just one of those spontaneous things.

Ding dong.

“Who’s that?” asked Princess Snow White.

“I don’t know,” said Princess Mi-Ah.  “I didn’t invite anyone for our tea party.”

“Well, let’s go to the door and see, shall we?”

The two princesses walked towards the castle’s front door, their long beautiful silk gowns rustling against the floor.  Princess Snow White opened the door and they were shocked to see a GIANT BABY!

“Aaagh!” screamed Princess Snow White who then started to whimper and cry, hiding behind Princess Mi-Ah’s skirt.

“Hah!  Don’t worry, it’s only the Giant Baby!” laughed Princess Mi-Ah.  “Come in, we’re all having tea now.”

In a deep, booming voice, Giant Baby said, “Thank you.  I’m very thirsty and hungry after my walk  here.”

Giant Baby had to lean forward and lower his ginormous head so that it would fit through the doorway.  When he walked, his steps shook the ground.  While they walked towards the tearoom, Princess Snow White trembled from fear.

Upon entering the room, the other guests gasped when they saw the massive guest arrive who towered over everyone.

“Hello, Giant Baby!” said Prince Boerie, running up to him with his favorite parrot Poop-shem on his shoulder.   (Yes, Prince Boerie likes to play at pirates.)

“Squaaaak!” said the parrot in greeting.

“Hello!” boomed Giant Baby through the room, rattling all of the dainty plates and cups and saucers.  “I’m thirsty!  Give me tea!  I’m hungry!  Give me a big cake!”  He then thumped himself down on his butt, shaking the ground so hard that everyone tumbled out of their chairs.

“Oh, dear,” said Princess Snow White.  “I don’t have a giant cake.  I’ll have to bake one.”  While she scurried off to the kitchen, Giant Baby said, “Hurry!”

While they waited, they drank their tea and ate some lovely strawberry cakes that Princess Mi-Ah had made.  She had only gone yesterday to collect the berries herself.  In the meantime, Prince Boerie got out the magic hairbrush and started brushing the hair of all the guests.  Prince Boerie himself kept his own hair very short but he gave himself a good scalp massage anyway.

Princess Snow White finally entered the room with an enormous cake in her arms.  She dropped it down in front of Giant Baby who was enjoying himself watching all of the small people around him.

“Nice cake!” he shouted and gobbled it down in one mouthful.  “Yum!”

Princess Mi-An and Prince Boerie laughed while Princess Snow White looked in shock at how piggy Giant Baby was.

Soon Giant Baby yawned so deeply that the furniture in the room started to get sucked into his mouth.  While he spat out piece of a chair he said, “I’m sleepy after all that tea and cake!  I want to sleep!  Get me a big bed.”

“Hmmmm….I don’t know if we have such a big bed,” said Princess Snow White who was quite eager to get rid of Giant Baby.

“I know of one!” cried Prince Boerie and everyone followed him into a large room that held the biggest bed anyone had ever seen.  Giant Baby smiled and immediately settled down into the bed.  There was only one problem.  No blankets.

“I”m cold!” said Giant Baby.  “Get me blanket!”

Princess SnowWhite and Prince Boerie ran off and got a giant blanket and covered Giant Baby.

“I’m still cold!” complained Giant Baby.

So off they went again while Princess Mi-Ah entertained Giant Baby with some nice lullabies.

With the second blanket, Giant Baby said again,”I’m still cold!  Another blanket!”

They went to get the very last giant blanket in the castle.  The two of them were exhausted after carrying such heavy blankets and fell in a heap at the food of the bed.  Luckily they heard snoring like thunder that shook the very walls of the castle.

The three of them snuck out and shut the door behind them.

THE END

I just came across your blog and really like your stories. I also write children’s stories for some of the same reasons as you…to “teach” my children what I couldn’t find in other books and also in English (I am an American living in Belgium). I have two girls who love all that is princess-related but they have also an interest in other types of characters. You can see what I write on my blog, if you’d like.
I look forward to reading Princess Mi-Ah for tonight’s bedtime story.
    Happy Writing :)

My girls enjoyed the Giant Baby story this evening. They laughed out loud.

I’m so happy to hear that! That really made my evening. What I do is often act these stories out with dolls and stuffed animals. Mi-Ah is herself (Princess Mi-Ah), Prince Boerie holds a little Diego doll and there is a Snow White, a parrot, Little Red Riding Hood (we call her Little Red), Wally the Walrus and tons of unicorns (Mi-Ah loves these.) Hmm….gives me some ideas…
